Our very own IT apprentice, Greg Jennings, was shortlisted from around 1000 IT apprentices in Scotland for the Microsoft Scottish Modern Apprentice of the Year award 2016. In an event held in Edinburgh last month, Greg achieved runner-up by making it to the final three in the technical support category – an outstanding achievement for both Greg and the University.

Greg is from Monifieth, Angus, and joined the University over a year ago. Since then, he has been making a valuable contribution to the IT Service Desk team as an Analyst. The IT Service Desk is the first point of contact for the University community for any IT-related incidents and requests, which receives 4000-7000 calls per month.

Greg receives excellent feedback from the 10,000 students and staff he provides support to. A member of staff said: “Greg Jennings dealt with my request very promptly and courteously. With all the difficult chaos that is generally going on, it is nice to feel like I can rely on the IT Service Desk staff to deal with the relatively simple things easily and efficiently. ” A student also told us: “Greg provided a helpful explanation of what I was having a problem with, with a prompt response-issue resolved within a couple of hours.”

This is a well-deserved achievement and we could not be prouder for Greg!
