Introducing AIndrea: a new AI research assistant
We’ve developed a new AI proof of concept called AIndrea to support research and innovation at the University.
AIndrea represents a significant step towards enabling researchers run custom models on-premises. This means data stays secure and meets all information governance and security requirements.
What AIndrea does
AIndrea currently handles question-and-answer queries. It helps staff quickly find reliable information, which is useful for fact-checking and idea generation.
By making information easier to access, AIndrea supports researchers in their pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
Authorised test users can sign in using this link: https://www-test.st-andrews.ac.uk/aindrea/chat
More than just co-pilot
AIndrea gives access to a range of models beyond the standard co-pilot. This flexibility means researchers can choose the tools that best suit their needs and objectives.
As research becomes more complex, having access to different models helps improve the quality and depth of analysis.
Built with security in mind
Data protection is a priority. AIndrea is designed to meet strict security standards, so researchers can be confident their data is handled safely with care and integrity.
What’s next
We’re exploring ways to run custom research models on local hardware. This would give researchers more control over their data and computing resources.
These developments could lead to more advanced and tailored research outcomes.
AIndrea wrote this blog
Scarily, AIndrea even wrote its own blog introduction.
We’re testing the model with a small group and will look at how to expand its use.
We’re not replacing co-pilot. We’re building on it to offer more choice and flexibility through Microsoft tools and our own developments.
We’ll share more updates as AIndrea evolves and matures.
