As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting the experiences of our IT apprentices and the valuable contributions they make across the University. Each apprentice brings their own perspective, but all share a commitment to learning, developing new skills and supporting our staff and students.

Meet Ornob, Apprentice IT Service Desk Analyst

Ornob works on our IT Service Desk as the first point of contact for students and staff seeking help from IT Services.

“As an apprentice, I’ve been fortunate to have many wonderful opportunities to learn and grow — and I’m excited for the many more to come.”

“Gaining real workplace experience has helped me in many ways, from strengthening my communication skills to building towards my qualifications with Elite Modern Apprenticeships Scotland. I also have the opportunity to work alongside wonderful peers who support me, making the experience even more rewarding.”

Meet Monica, Digital Workplace Apprentice

Monica works within our Business Relationship Management team, which promotes IT updates across the University through blogs, newsletters and social media. The team also helps raise awareness of digital tools by delivering IT inductions and running staff drop‑in sessions.

“I’ve been able to work on real projects, from promoting productivity tools to supporting colleagues across the University. This experience has strengthened my problem‑solving skills and helped me understand where I want to take my career in the digital sector.”

Meet Keir, Apprentice IT/AV Support Technician

Keir is part of our IT/AV team within IT Services. Alongside our IT/AV technicians, Keir helps to build new staff devices, maintain our technology within our teaching spaces, and support staff to use them during classes and events.

“I had no idea where I could go after leaving school and was interested in finding a career path into IT so when I saw an opening for an IT apprenticeship I knew it was the perfect opportunity.”

“I’ve developed skills within IT through hands-on experience alongside increasing my confidence and customer service.”

“I would highly recommend an IT apprenticeship for anyone interested or unsure where to start.”
