February was a busy and engaging month for IT Services as we supported Cyber Scotland Week activities and resolved 4,164 support queries.

1. Spotlighting Cyber Scotland Week

Cyber Scotland Week is a national initiative led by the Scottish Government and the Cyber Scotland Partnership to improve cyber resilience.

To raise awareness at the University, we held a series of interactive ‘Traitors Edition’ sessions focused on real-world cyber threats. Participants explored common attack methods such as phishing and social engineering, completed a codebreaking challenge and analysed recent major cyber-attacks to understand how they could have been prevented.

More than 40 staff took part in sessions across Walter Bower House and St Andrews, with Dundee and Angus College cybersecurity students joining a dedicated workshop the following week.

2. Learning automation tips from Saints Sport

During our Friday Cuppa Teams, we were joined by Fergus Knight, who shared how Saints Sport manage their approvals.

The session covered how to design end-to-end approval workflows using Microsoft 365 tools, including capturing structured submissions in Forms, building Power Automate flows, and sending automated email notifications.

Using practical examples such as academic flexibility requests, funding applications, competition entries and travel approvals, Fergus demonstrated how simple workflows can save time, reduce errors and improve communication.

3. Delivering at the AI in Teaching and Learning Sandbox event

We delivered a session at the AI in Teaching & Learning Sandbox event, an informal, hands‑on forum offering 25‑minute conversations at themed tables. Our focus was AI and productivity, giving staff space to explore practical ways AI can support both teaching and day‑to‑day work.

Feedback on the day was very positive. Staff described IT representatives Fiona and Monica as knowledgeable and engaging for staff from all levels in Schools.

4. Celebrating Scottish Cyber Awards Finalists

We’re delighted to see strong representation from the University across multiple categories.

In Patrick Green’s (MCIIS) team, Amanda Ross has been named a finalist for the Cyber Innovation Award, and Adam Mollon has been shortlisted for Cyber Student of the Year. From Service Delivery, Bethany Reid has been recognised for the Best Security Awareness Campaign for our ‘Cyber Traitors’ sessions delivered during Cyber Scotland Week.

5. Promoting our Agilico case study

Agilico visited the University last month to record a case study on our sustainable print fleet. They have now published the case study on their website.

It explains how our managed print partnership supports the University’s commitment to reach net zero carbon by 2035 and highlights the high‑quality support Agilico provides.
