Security updates for Apple devices
Security updates have been released for various Apple products to mitigate issues which could leave systems open to cyber attacks. Use this guidance to learn more about the issues, if you’re affected, and what you need to do.
About these updates
Apple has brought out security updates to patch over 80 vulnerabilities across their devices – iOS and iPadOS as well as macOS Tahoe, Sequoia and Sonoma.
The different devices which have been affected by these security updates can be seen below.
Who is affected?Â
These security updates are available on the following devices and applications:Â
- iPhone XS and later.
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later.
- iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later.
- iPad Air 3rd generation and later.
- iPad 7th generation and later.
- iPad mini 5th generation and later.
- Macs running macOS Tahoe, Sequoia and Sonoma.
- Apple watchOS, visionOS and tvOS.
In the updates, Apple has also fixed an issue in older iOS/iPadOS devices which could be exploited to recover deleted messages, these versions can be seen below.
- iOS 16.7.16 and iPadOS 16.7.16
- iOS 15.8.8 and iPadOS 15.8.8
- iPadOS 17.7.11

What you need to doÂ
Apple has released security updates to address multiple vulnerabilities. We have alerted those in an IT support role at the University who may have already been in touch.Â
If you own any of the devices or use any of the applications listed above, update them as soon as possible.Â
