May was another productive month for IT Services, with the team resolving 3800 support queries and welcoming our new Business Relationship Manager.

1. Welcome our new Business Relationship Manager

Three people sit at a small white table in a bright indoor workspace, each with an open laptop. A notebook with handwritten notes, a smartphone, keys, and a reusable water bottle are on the table. Behind them is a brick wall and a glass-partitioned room with chairs and tables. A window to the left shows an outdoor walkway and greenery.

This week we have welcomed Rebecca Neish to the team, who is supporting us as Maternity Cover for the Business Relationship Manager role.

Rebecca has worked at the University of St Andrews for almost 4 years and, in that time, has been part of the Development team and, within Research and Innovation Services, the Event Manager on the InFrame project.

Speaking about her new role, Rebecca said: “I am delighted to be joining the team and contributing my skills and knowledge in this role. Throughout my time at the University, I have benefited from the support and guidance of the IT Services team, enabling me to work more efficiently and deliver higher-quality outcomes. I am passionate about ensuring that staff and students are aware of, and can benefit from, the same level of support.”

2. Erin shortlisted for UCISA Rising Star award

The person is positioned beside a wooden handrail and glass barrier, wearing a dark top and trousers, with a staff ID badge visible. In the background are additional walkways, a staircase, and a potted plant in a bright open space.

Erin Niven, Senior IT/AV Support Technician in IT Services has been shortlisted for a UCISA Rising Star Award. The UCISA Rising Star Award recognises an emerging leader in digital technology who demonstrates ongoing technical and creative expertise, alongside continued growth in responsibility and leadership.

Erin was nominated for her impactful contributions to the IT Services team and the wider University, particularly through her undergraduate degree projects, including the rollout of HP’s Workforce Experience Platform, as well as her work as an Apprentice Ambassador and Mentor.

Well done, Erin!

3. The rollout of BT guest Wi-Fi summer service

With summer upon us and the University’s Events and Conferences team welcoming several visitors, we are offering a campus-wide free Wi-Fi network.

This free BT Wi-Fi is available from Tuesday 2 June 2026 until Thursday 3 September 2026.

How to connect to BT Wi-Fi

  1. On your device, connect to the wireless network “BTWiFi”.
  2. You’ll see a University of St Andrews page. Click “Get online”.

4. The 2026/27 IT checklist for new students

Three people sitting outdoors on steps with open laptops, laughing and chatting together. One person in a blue top looks down at a laptop, another in a striped top wears sunglasses and sits with a bag on their lap, and a third in a white top holds a laptop while adjusting their hair.

If you are or know a student who will be joining us in September, we have created a checklist of 6 steps that students should follow to ensure they are set up and ready from an IT perspective ahead of their arrival to support a smoother transition into University life.

5. One Minute Survey Winner

The card features a stylised skyline silhouette in gradient blue tones along the bottom and large text reading “ST ANDREWS.” Above this are icons and words “Shop,” “Play,” “Indulge,” and “Stay.” In the lower right corner, the text reads “The Gift Card #LoveStAndrews.”

Congratulations to Julie from Estates who won our May One Minute Survey prize draw.

To take part next month, simply complete the feedback form sent by the IT Service Desk after they resolve your query. Everyone who submits feedback will be entered automatically for a chance to win a £15 St Andrews voucher.
