January roundup
January was a productive start to the new year for IT Services as we resolved 4,755 support queries and prepared systems and services for the return to teaching.
1. Looking back at 2025 in numbers
In 2025, we resolved 54,703 IT queries. September was our busiest month, with 8,423 requests. Across the University, staff joined 259,401 Teams meetings. You can watch ‘our 2025 overview’ video in the full blog post.
2. Setting up matriculation event at the Gateway

To support new students starting in January, our IT/AV team set up workstations in the Gateway for the matriculation event. Our Campus Card Services team was also on site to meet students and issue student ID cards to those not staying in Halls.
3. Raising funds for Guardbridge Bowling Club

On 15 January, IT Services presented a £500 fundraising donation to Guardbridge Bowling Club, following the Service Delivery team’s Christmas event held at the venue in December. The team chose to raise funds after learning about the club’s work in the local community, including its regular “bite and a blether” social meals which help to tackle lonliness.
4. Filming a case study for Agilico

The marketing team from Agilico, our managed print provider, visited the University to record footage of staff sharing their experience of the Agiico Zero devices installed last summer, and the support service provided from the Edinburgh-based team. We look forward to sharing the case study with you in the coming months and tell you more about Agilico Zero devices.
5. Supporting the Burns Supper

Our IT/AV team supported our colleagues in Development (led by Robert Fleming) to deliver their sixth annual Online Global Burns Night 2026. The event celebrated Scotland’s national poet and Scottish culture with music, poetry, Scottish traditional dance, food and drink as well as academic elements from across the University.
6. Supporting Reusing IT at the Repair Cafe

We were delighted to support the University’s Transition team at their Repair Café event on Saturday 31st January in St Andrews Town Hall. We introduced guest speaker Ross Cockburn from our partner charity, Reusing IT, who shared powerful examples of how refurbished devices are helping communities access vital digital services. Ross and his volunteer team also ran a workshop and accepted tech donations from attendees.
7. Celebrating our One Minute Survey winner

Congratulations to Kirsteen from the School of Medicine, who won our January One Minute Survey prize draw. To take part next month, simply complete the feedback form sent by the IT Service Desk after they resolve your query. Everyone who submits feedback will be entered automatically for a chance to win a £15 St Andrews voucher.
8. Raising awareness of digital tools at Estates staff day

We were grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the annual Estates staff day, where we presented real examples of how colleagues across the University are using digital tools to improve efficiency and automate routine tasks. If you’d like us to attend your next team meeting or staff event to share similar insights, please get in touch with the IT Service Desk.
